South African sleepwear brand N3YH is moving into everyday leisurewear, with a new collection designed for the comfortable hours somewhere between bed and being properly dressed.
There is a particular kind of Sunday morning dressing that doesn’t really have a name.
You’ve had your coffee. The pyjamas have probably done their job. But jeans, buttons and anything requiring too much effort still feel completely unnecessary.
It is that increasingly familiar space between sleepwear and getting properly dressed that South African brand N3YH is stepping into with the launch of its first leisurewear collection.
Known for sleepwear, the brand is taking its approach to comfort beyond bedtime with everyday pieces for women and, for the first time, men.
And it makes sense.
The way we dress at home has changed considerably. Working from home, slower weekends and a general preference for clothes that don’t need to be changed the minute you leave the house have blurred the once-clear line between sleepwear, loungewear and casual clothing.
A pair of lounge pants can now quite comfortably take you from breakfast to a few hours behind the laptop, followed by a coffee run or trip to the shops. A good T-shirt works just as easily on the couch as it does on a flight or a weekend away.
N3YH’s new collection has been designed around exactly that kind of versatility.
For men, who are being introduced to the N3YH offering for the first time, the range is deliberately uncomplicated. Relaxed T-shirts, shorts and long lounge pants are available in Olive, Black, Stone and White, with simple silhouettes designed to work together or alongside pieces already in the wardrobe.
There is no attempt to reinvent menswear here. These are comfortable basics for working from home, watching the game, travelling, spending a lazy morning around the house or heading out without needing a complete wardrobe change.
The women’s collection takes the same approach with a slightly different feel.
A new ribbed range includes long-sleeve tops and long lounge pants in Stone, Black, Olive and Bubblegum Pink. They can be worn as matching sets or separated and styled with other pieces, giving them more mileage than traditional sleepwear.
Comfort, however, remains at the centre of both collections.
The pieces are made from bamboo fabric, which is lightweight and breathable, helps regulate temperature and wicks moisture away from the skin. Its softness also lends itself particularly well to clothing intended to be lived in for hours rather than worn for a single occasion.
It is perhaps why leisurewear has become such an easy addition to modern wardrobes.
We increasingly want clothing to do more than one job. We want to be comfortable at home without necessarily looking like we’re ready for bed. We want clothes we can travel in, work in, relax in and, when necessary, leave the house in.
N3YH isn’t abandoning the sleepwear that built the brand. It is simply following its customers into a few more hours of their day.
And for anyone who has ever looked at a pair of jeans on a Sunday morning and decided, absolutely not, that may be a very welcome development.
